Founded in 1817 the University of Liege is the only public Community-sponsored university in the French-speaking part of Belgium which offers a complete range of university courses at undergraduate and post-graduate levels It is divided into seven faculties Philosophy and Letters Law and School of Criminology Sciences Medicine Applied Sciences Veterinary Medicine Psychology and Educational Sciences and three Schools Economics and Management Social Sciences Criminology

The city and the countryside
The Faculty of Philosophy and Letters the Administrative Services and the Main Library are located in the centre of Liege The rest of the university has been transferred over the last 40 years to the Domaine du Sart Tilman including the University Medical Centre CHU [website in French] and several extra-mural research centres Famous for its natural and architectural beauty the Sart Tilman [website in French] is a large wooded area 1820 acres located five miles south of the city Parts of the site are dedicated to leisure activities walkways cycle and riding tracks sport centres and barbecue facilities There is also an open-air museum [website in French] displaying some 120 works of art integrated into the landscape A number of very rare species of trees can be found in the park of the Château de Colonster an imposing eighteenth-century construction and in the botanical gardens A team of eminent architects collaborated on the entire setting
