Fachhochschule Leipzig:General information Leipzig University of Applied Sciences continues a tradition of more than two centuries devoted to technical education within a changing economic and social environment With about 6000 students it is an attractive and stimulating university in Germany It consists of seven departments and the academic staff includes 186 professors Students can acquire an academic education in one of the degree courses in engineering computer science business administration social and cultural sciences Of these 14 courses lead to the Diplom and 17 to the Bachelor and Master degree respectively The courses are aimed at meeting the requirements of todays marketplace The range of subjects at the HTWK Leipzig mirrors Leipzigs economic traditions and strengths in commerce book publishing and printing and more recently in the media and service industry Accordingly the university focuses its academic program on areas of information and communication technologies Universities of Applied Sciences are a special type of German higher education institutions - they are called FachHochschule FH The characteristic feature is a practical and career-related education of three or four years leading to the BachelorMaster or Diplom All academic degrees qualify to enter a multitude of professions in industry commerce and public administration Universities of Applied Sciences enjoy a great popularity with students and employers alike 40 per cent of all higher education graduates - in some areas such as engineering more than half of the graduates - now come from a University of Applied Sciences Employers appreciate the innovative and relevant higher education delivered by Universities of Applied Sciences Not surprisingly employment prospects of FH graduates are consistently high
