Universidad de Jaen:The UJA is a medium-sized institution some 14500 students and over 800 faculty most of whom are PhD’s located on a new Campus in the north-east of the city and a few schools in other towns of the province Andújar Linares Úbeda The Campus houses a great Aula Magna several classroom and laboratory buildings computer rooms the main library building with ample study and reading rooms two cafeterias a Student Residence there are other private residences in the city a Sports Centre with a very extensive programme of indoor and outdoor activities a travel agency a newsagent a bookshop a bank branch Its beautiful gardens and lawns are home to many different tree species and birds There are frequent bus connections from different points in the city centre to the University A taxi from downtown Jaén may cost around 5 euros The UJA is a public university integrated in the Andalusian University System which includes the Universities of Granada Córdoba Huelva Cádiz Almería Málaga Seville and the International University of Andalusia The Andalusian University System libraries give access to over 4 million books and 5000 electronic journals The UJA has a large collection of paintings by artists from Jaén as well as several works by Cesáreo Aguilera Goya or Picasso It sponsors theatre groups cinema shows exhibitions concerts conferences and seminars There is an International Drama Week in April with groups from all over the world music festivals including flamenco and jazz literary and photography contests Finally our 20 student associations organise many other activities and events Degrees and Programs The UJA offers some 40 graduate programmes and 30 postgraduate programmes Master Diplomas and PhD Studies There are two kinds of degrees roughly equivalent Bachelor and Master DiplomadoIngeniero Técnico [3 years] and LicenciadoIngeniero [4 or 5 years ] in the following fields Biology Business Management and Administration Business Sciences Chemistry English Philology Educational Psychology Engineering Electrical Electronic Mechanical Chemical Mining Informatics and Computer Science Topography Telecommunications Telematics Environmental Sciences Geodesy and Cartography Humanities Industrial Management Labour Relations Law Law Business Management and Administration Nursing Physiotherapy Primary School Teaching Physical Education Nursery School Primary School Foreign Language and Music Public Management and Administration Social Work Spanish Philology Psychology Statistics Tourism Tourism English Philology Research UJA has 90 research groups in 60 different areas of knowledge including among others the following photovoltaic energy remote sensing archaeology modern language teaching bio-medicine sustainable development legal aspects of convergence systems Mercosur and European Union environmental law space law… Jaén is the world capital of olive oil the UJA also conducts research on olive growing and olive oil production from different perspectives medicine chemistry culture marketing Cooperation with firms The UJA has entered into almost 300 contracts with national and international companies Some of these projects are funded by the Spanish and Andalusian Governments the European Union and the United Nations International Relations The UJA is firmly committed to internationalisation and has pledged itself in many different types of cooperation We have over 150 Student and Teacher Exchange agreements with universities from all over the world in Europe Latin America the United States Canada China and the Maghreb countries Many of our European agreements have been developed under the European Socrates Programme The UJA also cooperates with several Latin American universities by delivering its PhD programs at these institutions contributing to raising the number of PhD holders in those countries Paraguay Bolivia Argentina Mexico and Portugal We also have Joint Postgraduate Programs with European universities in Paris Porto… Finally the UJA cooperates in many research projects and networks in Latin America funded by the European Union and the Spanish and the Andalusian governments
